Description
Target Group
Target group are heavy physically hindered people for who it is difficulty or who are not able to use a mouse. simon is also for people with heavy cognitive and linguistically deficiencies, because simon only works with the speech of the affected person and the defined application definitions do not require any computer knowledge.
Linguistical and Cognitive Requirements
The person is required to be able to congnisant articulate different words and/or phonemeconstructions.
Knowledge of Numbers
The person is required to cognizant differentiate and allocate the numbers from 0 - 9 and/or to cognizant differentiate and allocate linduistically constructions.
Installing the Application package basic autonomy (windows)
Download of the Application package
To be able to install the Application package you have to download the following zip-file:
Anwendungspaket.zip (ZIP-Komprimiert, ca. 5,74KB)
Installation of the Application package
| note: If you already configured simon(added words, configured commandos, etc.) you should save you configuration, because it will be deleted by reconfiguration! |
To install the downloaded package you have to unpack it.
Application_package.zip contains the following datastructure:
This structure has to be kept when copying! |
Now press Start -> Run (shortcut: Windows-Button + R) Now enter the following addresline:
<tt>%appdata%\.kde\share\apps\simon\</tt>
If You click on "OK" the directory with the simon configurations will be opened.
You have to Copy the unpecked content of Anwendungspaket.zip to this directory.
Configuration of Applications (Windows)
Mozilla Firefox
Download
To install the Firefox Browser you have to download it first.You can find the program on http://www.getfirefox.com. Just use the download-button.
Installation
Run the downloaded file to install Firefox. After that just follow the instructions of the setup.
Mouseless Browsing
Installation
Mouseless Browsing is an addon Mozilla Firefox. For installation you have to browse to https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/879.Now click the button „Zu Firefox hinzufügen“. After that the window „Software-Installation“ should be opened. Now just click „Jetzt installieren“ to finish the installation.
Configuration
The konfiguration of Mouseless Browsing should look like the following picture. Approve the konfiguration with „OK“.
Skype
Download
To install Skype you have to download it from http://www.skype.com .
Creating a Skype user
At the first time, Skype will ask you about a username. Here you have the chance to create a new user too.
Adding of new contacts
Before you could phone contacts, you have to add these contects in the contactlist. Get Specific informations about Skype in the help of it. NOTE: Skype also allows you to phone "normal" phonenumbers like mobilphonenumbers or phones on fixed networks. However, this will produce costs and you need some credits which you can buy with this program.
MediaPortal
Download
To be able to install Mediaportal you have to download it first. You can find the program under http://www.team-mediaportal.de/. Follow the link "Download" and choose the latest version of Mediaportal.
Installation
After downloading Mediaportal, you have to execute the setup by a double click. The assistant wants you to select a Language. At the next page, please click at "Start installation". If you want to install Mediaportal at a Windows Vista computer, it could be that a error dialog is shown. Please confirm this dialog with "OK".
If you also want to watch TV with Mediaportal, choose the according option.
For the question, if you want to see HDTV, also choose the right option for you.
At the configuration which TV-Engine you would choose, we recommend the Mediaportal TV-Server.
Choose now the "User defined installation" and confirm with "Next".
Now choose normally covered, the "Member space-installation".
As database, choose "MySQL 5".
Now, you could customize the installation path for MySQL. Furthermore you could choose a password for the Mediaportal-user, which will be "MediaPortal" by default. You can keep that password, if you want to.
Now, you can customize the installation path of Mediaportal.
Now, you can customize the installation path of the Mediaportal TV-Server.
Now, all options will be shown at the display, which would perform now. Please confirm with "Install".
To finish the installation click the finish-button.
Configuration
Open the configuration program of MediaPortal. For the first time, you will be asked whether you want to use ist in "Normal Mode" or in "Advanced Mode". The "Normal Mode" should be adequate enough. When it should not ask again the next time you want to configure MediaPortal then activate "Do not ask again".
Accept with "Continue" to get to the configuration page.
Configuration of videos
We recommend following settings for videos:
- Delete optical discs like cd- and dvd-players
- Deactivate the option "Automatically add optical disc drives"
Note: Keep in mind, that videos need to be saved in the appropriate folder (Usually "My documents\videos\")

To be able to send e-mails via simon, you need to have a pre-installed and pre-configured e-mail client!
